Excellence rewarded

Constituing an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of excellence and healthy competition among students, the end-of-year ceremony organised on 18 July by the Sidi Mohammed ben Abdellah University celebrated the winners who distinguished themselves in the various establishments under the USMBA, for the 2011/2012 academic year. Speaking on this occasion, Farissi Esserghini, president of the USMBA, made it known that the University of Fez has managed to establish itself as a higher education establishment of great scale at the regional, national and international level. "The USMBA, which currently has 13 establishments spread over the regions of Fez-Boulemane and Taza-Taounate-El Hoceima, is the first university at the national level in terms of the number of students, with 71,462 students, including 1,440 foreign students. As for enrolments, the USMBA counted during the 2011/2012 academic year some 22,885 new students against 12,122 in 2009 and the start of the emergency plan, an increase of 47%. These students are supervised by a teaching staff composed of 1,321 teachers," he explained, before adding that these figures will be increased during the next academic year following the growing number of students who have obtained the baccalaureate at the level of the Fez-Boulemane region.

An increased interest in scientific research

The USMBA currently has 93 scientific laboratories covering the three disciplinary fields (science and technology, literature and human sciences, as well as law, economics and management), including 21 laboratories that were created during this year. This growing interest in scientific research is corroborated by the launch of the Innovation City in partnership with the Department of Commerce, Industry and New Technologies, which is intended to be a space for promoting research and development, innovation and technological transfer within companies, as well as the approval of three start-up creation projects during the Start-up weekend which recently took place at the presidency at the University of Fez.
