A month of solidarity and charity, par excellence, Ramadan represents a favourable occasion to bring a smile back to the most underprivileged people and their families. In this context, the Rotaract Club Fes-Karaouiyine was keen to perpetuate its tradition that has lasted for 13 years, that of allowing the most underprivileged families in the city of Fes to celebrate the joys of the holy month of Ramadan, by organising the 13th edition of the "Iftar" action on Sunday, August 12, at the Touria Sekkat high school. Representing a gesture of generosity towards people in need, the "Iftar 2012" action was, according to Najlae Kabbaj, president of the Rotaract Club Fes-Karaouiyine, a real success. "This year, the Iftar action was able to benefit 1,500 underprivileged families, coming from the different neighbourhoods of the city of Fes and chosen following fieldwork carried out by the club members who were mobilised to ensure the success of this initiative," she explained. And she added: "Our goal behind this initiative is to allow these families to have the necessary provisions to finish the month of Ramadan and spend Aid Al Fitr in the best possible conditions. Indeed, Moroccan families have always tended to prepare for Ramadan months in advance. But as soon as the first two weeks of the holy month pass, provisions begin to run low, hence our choice of the 3rd week to launch our solidarity action." Thus, 1,500 food packs were distributed on this occasion to the 1,500 beneficiary families. "These packs consist of the food items most consumed during the fasting month, namely flour, chickpeas, lentils, oil, sugar, coffee, tea, tomato paste, etc. The budget for this operation, which is some 450,000 DH, was provided by donations. I thank, moreover, all the donors for the trust they place in us and for their contribution to the success of this action," specified Mohamed Bennani, co-founder of the Rotaract Club Fes-Karaouiyine. It should be noted that the "Iftar" action is growing in scale year by year. At its launch, the Iftar action benefited 200 families, rising to 600 in 2008. In 2009, 1,000 families were able to receive food aid, compared to 1,200 in 2010. In 2011, the target of 1,500 beneficiary families was reached by the Rotaract Club Fes-Karaouiyine.
The Rotaract Club Fes-Karaouiyine is a club of young professionals under the age of 30. It was created in 1996 at the initiative of the Rotary Fes Doyen and officially obtained its charter on April 12, 2010, thus giving it authorisation to operate under the supervision of Rotary International. The main objective of the Rotaract Fes-Karaouiyine is to undertake social actions aimed at helping the community and developing the region while developing the skills and capacities of its members. The Rotaract Club Fes-Karaouiyine organises cultural, associative, and charitable actions throughout the year.
