The Epidemiological Diagnostic and Environmental Hygiene Laboratory (LRDEHM) at the Regional Directorate of Health of Fes-Boulemane has just obtained the "NM ISO/IEC 17025: 2005" accreditation issued by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies. This is the first regional laboratory of the Ministry of Health to have obtained such accreditation. "This accreditation constitutes the consecration of the efforts deployed since 2005 by the laboratory team and by the Regional Directorate of Health of Fes-Boulemane. It testifies to the recognition of the rigour of the organisational scheme and the technical competence of the laboratory according to the requirements defined in the NM ISO 17025: 2005 standard," explains Dr Abdelhakim El Ouali Lalami, director of the laboratory. With a staff of 12 people in addition to a head of department, the LRDEHM of Fes-Boulemane develops its activities around four poles. "It concerns the health surveillance of water-borne diseases through the performance of microbiological and physicochemical analyses of water, the health surveillance of food-borne diseases through microbiological analyses of food, the control of parasitic diseases via the microscopic diagnosis of malaria, cutaneous leishmaniasis and bilharzia, as well as the surveillance of disease vectors and the identification of mosquito larvae and adults and their WHO sensitivity tests towards insecticides," specifies Dr El Ouali Lalami. Furthermore, the laboratory participates in environmental impact studies and proceeds to the training of technical personnel of the laboratories in the region as well as the supervision of numerous works and research studies relating to the health system for the benefit of students of the Institute of Training in Health Careers (IFCS) of Fes and the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University.
