The spiritual capital is hosting, from 26 April to 4 May, the eleventh edition of the Fes Festival of the art of malhoun, placed this year under the sign "Heritage, witness of identity". Famous orchestras, known and recognised as the custodians of an authentic art, will animate this festival, which has become an unmissable annual meeting for lovers of malhoun on a national scale.
Chioukhs, musicians, and mounchidine, coming from the regions of Fes, Meknes, Marrakech, and Taroudant will interpret alongside the invited orchestras, "qçayed" associating the beauty of poetry with the diversity of themes dealing with the social, the religious, but also the love of the homeland.
In parallel with the concerts and musical shows, the programme of the Festival provides for the presentation of a theatrical play on the art of malhoun, entitled "Lagnaoui". Besides the festive aspect of this event, conferences and training sessions around malhoun (history, figures, techniques, and terminology of malhoun) will be led by academics and researchers in heritage from different regions of the Kingdom. And like the previous editions, the menu of the Festival includes this year again visits of a cultural and spiritual nature in the mausoleums of the Medina, as well as an exhibition of books, research, and documents on the literature and art of malhoun. It should be noted that the Fes Festival of the art of malhoun is part of a set of festivals focused on the different expressions of Moroccan cultural heritage, organised each year by the municipal council of the city of Fes (Festival of Arab-Andalusian music, Festival of samaa and madih, etc.). These festivals, all together, are part of a cultural agenda spread over the whole year, which aims to valorise the ancestral traditions of Fassi culture and art.
