Fez is catching the wave of new technologies. At least, that is the common vision of the world leader in software, Microsoft, and the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the Moroccan city.
The two institutions, in fact, announced during a presentation workshop organised last week at the Palais des Congrès by the town hall and the wilaya of the city of Fez, that they are providing the city of Fez with an urban dashboard.
Thus, carried out in tandem, this major project demonstrates the leading role of ICT in improving governance and the good development of cities.
Note that the dashboard is based on Cloud technologies and precisely Microsoft Windows Azure.
"Today, a city can only develop if it relies on ICT to improve the efficiency of its services in the energy, water or transport sectors.
The objective of Microsoft, through the implementation of this urban dashboard, is to allow the authorities of Fez, via a series of urban indicators, to measure the progress of the city and adjust their management strategy accordingly. Monitoring progress over time will allow the authorities to strengthen the efficiency of their governance and better contribute to the growth of the city," underlines Samir Benmakhlouf, General Manager of Microsoft Morocco, in a press release. For his part, Hamid Chabat, Mayor of Fez, specifies that "the implementation of this dashboard is in phase with the development strategy of Fez and will allow us to gain efficiency in terms of decision-making. This is why we are proud of our collaboration with Microsoft and the AfDB on this strategic project."
Note that the initial phase of this major project will be completed and presented during the annual meetings of the AfDB which will be held in Marrakech from 27 to 31 May 2013.
