The Moroccan Society of Endovascular Specialists (SMSE) is organising the first Maghreb Congress of Endovascular Specialists in Fès on 17 and 18 May.
Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this first meeting will bring together eminent national and international experts in endovascular intervention from all four corners of the world, notably from the United States, India, Tunisia, Algeria, Portugal, and France.
The congress will be an ideal opportunity to examine and debate the evolution of this new surgical technique in Morocco and other Maghreb countries in a context marked by the high cost of this treatment, the president of the SMSE, Prof. Amina Benjelloun, indicated to MAP. This highly specialised technique remains expensive due in particular to the absence of a single fixed rate for its performance, Prof. Benjelloun explained, adding that this meeting will look into this issue in order to find a consensus on the subject between health professionals, supervisory authorities, and insurance companies.
The endovascular solution constitutes a new form of treatment for vascular lesions from the inside. Performed thanks to quality imaging throughout the procedure, endovascular surgery is a percutaneous intervention (without opening the skin) that is carried out using a device called a vascular endoprosthesis.
Designed to be placed inside the organ without surgical opening of the blood vessel and without tissue ablation, the endoprosthesis is considered less invasive than open surgery.
