Fès hosted the first forum of "Cities friendly and twinned with Fès" on 6 and 7 June. Initiated by the urban commune of Fès, this event took place around the theme "Heritage at the service of development". This forum, which saw the participation of delegations from European, Asian, African, and Arab and Islamic world cities, constituted a framework for Fès and its friendly cities to strengthen their solidarity, offer themselves new perspectives for research and exchange, and implement work and reflection projects focused on innovative initiatives and projects beneficial to all parties.
Safeguarding heritageTo illustrate the theme chosen for this forum, the participants highlighted the tangible and intangible heritage of the spiritual capital of the Kingdom and the efforts made for the rehabilitation of the old Medina and all the cities classified as world heritage participating in this event. Professor Mohammed Mezzine, historian and heritage expert, dedicated his intervention on this occasion to the historical and cultural influences on the heritage of Fès. "The Idrissid city, which was influenced by the Orient, Andalusia, the Mediterranean, and even Africa, has a rich and varied heritage ensemble that results from 12 centuries of history, generosity, and sharing of ideals and values. The heritage of Fès is thus distinguished by the fact that it represents the quintessence of several cultures, civilisations, and religions," he specified. Note that on the sidelines of this forum, guided tours of the historical monuments of the city of Fès were organised.
