Collapse of a dwelling in Fez

A four-storey dwelling, located in the Ben Slimane district at the level of the Al Merinide district in Fez, collapsed on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, causing one injury among the building's inhabitants, we learn from local authorities.

The injured person, a five-year-old girl, was admitted to the Fez University Hospital to receive the necessary care. The heavy rains that recently fell on the city are said to be at the origin of the collapse, the same source specifies, adding that the collapse of this anarchic building caused cracks in some neighbouring dwellings in the district. The Public Laboratory for Testing and Studies (LPEE) has identified some 1,100 buildings threatening ruin, inhabited by 5,000 families, in the various districts of the city of Fez.

More than 1,800 families have benefited from financial aid to find alternative housing within the framework of a partnership agreement signed between the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Policy, which came into force in 2012.
