Scientific Days of Medical Oncology in Fez

The 1st Scientific Days of Medical Oncology are taking place on 20 and 21 February in Fez, at the initiative of the Hassan II University Hospital (CHU) of Fez under the theme "Therapeutic news and future perspectives in onco-urology, senology, and broncho-pulmonary cancer".

This scientific meeting, in which a galaxy of national and international experts, oncologists, surgeons, radiotherapists, organ and function specialists, anatomopathologists, radiologists, as well as pharmacists will take part, will deal with the mechanisms and latest novelties in the treatment of different types of cancer.

Organised in partnership with the "Chifae" Association, these Scientific Days will focus, among other things, on the examination of urological cancers, breast cancer, and bronchial cancers.

The congress participants will have to address several axes including "Multidisciplinary consultation meeting at the Hassan II University Hospital of Fez: an essential tool in oncology", "Oncological rehabilitation: what the oncologist needs to know", "Prevention and Research", "Hospital registry: interests and limits", "Early detection of breast and cervical cancer in Morocco", and "clinical research in Morocco".

They will also have to debate "Prostate cancer", "Surgery in prostate cancer, state of play and future perspectives", "News in radiotherapy for prostate cancer", "Therapeutic strategies in metastatic prostate cancer in 2015", "Surgery in localised kidney cancer", "The place of surgery in metastatic disease", "Therapeutic strategies in colorectal cancer", "Adjuvant treatment of breast cancer in 2015", and "Perioperative treatment in early stages".

The management of urological cancers, breast cancer, and bronchial cancers is of interest to all professionals in the medical sector, indicated Prof. Nawfel Mellas, head of the oncology department at the Hassan II University Hospital-Fez, stressing that clinical research, the experience of the Hassan II University Hospital in multidisciplinary consultation meetings, the hospital registry, rehabilitation in oncology, and early detection of breast and cervical cancer in Morocco will be widely debated.

Molecular biology and the search for predictive factors of response to new anti-cancer therapies occupy a central place in the management of cancer patients and the determination of the therapeutic strategy, added Mr. Mellas, also president of the "Chifae" Association.
