A collective of women's associations has pleaded for the implementation of a framework law that punishes violence against women, puts an end to impunity and guarantees the protection and reparation of damages suffered by victims of violence.
The "Women's Solidarity Network" indicates, in an appeal made public at the end of a meeting held on Tuesday in Fès on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, that this law is capable of constituting an "effective" mechanism in the prevention of violence against women, in addition to its contribution to awareness-raising and education on equality and the rejection of violence and discrimination against women.
For these associations, achieving these objectives necessarily requires the "rapid" establishment of the Authority for Parity and the Fight against All Forms of Discrimination against Women, as well as coordination between this independent body, the associations involved in the fight against violence and the institutions responsible for promoting good governance.
They also denounced the crimes of rape and kidnapping committed by a major criminal, who was arrested last week in Sidi Harazem, in the prefecture of Fès, calling for an in-depth investigation to elucidate all the accusations brought against this criminal.
The collective announced in this context the setting up of a regional committee to ensure the follow-up of this file and provide legal and psychological support to the victims, and urged all women's associations and human rights organisations to set up a "strong" national coalition with a view to putting pressure on the promulgation of the framework law against violence against women.
